Our God is a divine creator! At any given point, we can be thrilled by His handiwork. Whether a glorious sunset, an intricate butterfly wing, or a majestic waterfall, His beauty abounds. We see His beauty in creation, but also recognize it as part of His identity, as displayed in the life and character of Jesus. Scripture reveals that physically Jesus was average; His allure wasn’t in physical appearance, it was displayed in how He loved. Hence, we were created by beauty.
You see, the life of Jesus defines beauty. As His daughters, we have been made in His image, and as we follow Him and live a life that reflects His love, we reflect His beauty. We were created by beauty, and also as beauty.
As part of His creation made in His image, we have been created to create!
Interestingly, most of us wouldn’t consider ourselves to be creative. We assume creativity is reserved for a select few – for artists, writers, singers, and the like. But, God has gifted each of us to add beauty to His world. Our call is to recognize and walk confidently in our unique gifting. Our creativity can be expressed through how we parent, the way we use our gifts in our profession, cook a meal, host a gathering, support a friend, and a million other ways.
Hence, we were created by beauty, as beauty, and also for beauty.
This understanding of beauty broadens our minds and helps us recognize that it comes in infinite forms. Creating is a huge part of our gifting, and when we remember our calling is bigger than us, we find the tenacity to enjoy creative freedom. Creating beauty is an expression of our humanity as well as our method to love, serve, and connect with others. When we freely create we expand our potential and capacity to reflect the love of Jesus to the world around us.
So, if you’re at all like me, and you don’t naturally see yourself as a creative person, here are a few questions to consider that may help get your juices flowing:
How can I use my gifts to glorify God and share His love with the world around me?
In what ways am I creative in my everyday life? Hint, think beyond paintbrushes and glue!
What is a skill I’d love to develop if given the time and resources?
What would happen if I started to view my passions as God-given creativity?
Ladies, in order to walk confidently in our callings, we begin by recognizing ourselves as creatives. We were created by beauty, as beauty, and for beauty! The beauty we share with the world is our way of honoring our Heavenly Father. So, what will you be creating today?
