A friend of mine has a difficult yet noble career teaching English to adults, most of whom are immigrants. The determination and resolve her students exhibit are truly admirable. The English language can be so complex and confusing, to say the least! My friend is always so delighted when her students make progress.
She recently told me about a student who was so excited to tell her about an experience. She had taken her child to the doctor and was offered an interpreter to sit in on the appointment with her. As usual, she accepted this service. As the appointment concluded, the interpreter told her, "You did great on your own! You didn't even need me!" This mom left with such a feeling of empowerment and independence. What a huge milestone for her!
Days later, I still find myself reflecting on this story, because it occurred to me that this, my friends, is a beautiful illustration of our spiritual walk. As we are exploring faith and new to following Jesus, we lean heavily on the support and guidance of "interpreters". Books, podcasts, bible studies, preaching, and teaching all help us to grow in our understanding and love of scripture.
And like the woman walking out of the doctor's office with her head held high, we can all feel similar empowerment! Great insight awaits when we allow others' wisdom to spark a personal curiosity about scripture. Jesus meets us where we are with an excited gleam in His eye, like a parent about to give His child an unexpected surprise. He leans in and whispers, "I can't wait to show you something!" Suddenly, scripture feels more alive and generous than ever!

As Christ followers, we are all lifelong learners, benefitting from others' wisdom and experience! And, over time we will also continue to glean wisdom and revelations during our personal time with Jesus and scripture.
Friends, this is why the EJC team and I pour our hearts and energy into developing Encounter: A Personal Journey with Jesus. This experience is designed to connect you with Jesus. It's not designed to tell you what to think or believe. It reveals insights along the way, but your "aha" moments come from your ultimate Guide, Jesus! Encounter is created to empower women to seek, love, and follow Jesus as a result of personal encounters with Him.
We want every woman to experience the thrill of getting to know Jesus at a personal level. It's such a delight to hear from other women receiving insights and discoveries as they participate in Encounter!
